Welcome

Welcome to the Kuyahoora Valley Rotary Club’s website. It is my privilege to serve as President for the 2020-21 year. As a member of the club for ten years, I  look forward to hopefully resuming a more normal club routine than we have had since March 2020. Our club, thanks to technology leadership within the club and an adventurous spirit by many of our members, has been able to maintain our weekly meeting pattern via Zoom through June. Beginning with our Changing of the Guard event on July 7th, we will meet for the summer months at the Town of Russia Pavilion each Tuesday night at 6:30.

Rotary International’s theme for the coming year is Rotary Opens Opportunities. At the local level, we are making plans to resume, recreate, or invent new projects and activities for the club in the coming year. New members are always welcome!

Our annual KV Rotary Club goals will revolve around the same themes we have always held. The questions we will ask ourselves will be:
  • How can we support our community?
  • How can we support our youth?
  • How can we support global needs?
  • How can we support one another?
We hope you will support our community efforts by attending an event, contributing to our fund-raising projects, or better yet, joining our Club!

Yours in Rotary,
Ann Maher

Kuyahoora Valley Rotary Club Fall Fundraisers

The Kuyahoora Valley (KV) Rotary Club has become creative in their fundraising efforts, in reaction to the pandemic’s impact. You can support the club’s projects and eat well at the same time, by purchasing pre-sale tickets for their October 24th Drive-Through Chicken Barbecue at the Town of Kuyahoora Valley Town Park, 8916 N. Main Street, Poland, NY 13431. This is a new project for the club, with the chicken prepared by  Newport Firemen; tickets will be sold in advance of the event, pickup of the chicken BBQ will be between 12 and 2 PM on Oct 24th and no dinners will be available that day without a ticket. Tickets may be purchased from any KV Rotarian, or call Ann at 315-717-4257.

Another fundraiser currently underway is a Raffle which will yield 3 prizes of $1000.00, $600.00, and $400.00. The winners will be drawn at a KV club meeting on Dec 8, 2020. A $50.00 donation to the club will help our community outreach projects. Only 100 tickets are available; contact a KV Rotarian soon for your ticket, or call Jim at 315-794-2786.

Visit the KV Rotary website at www.kuyahooravalleyrotary.org, follow our Facebook page, or attend a dinner meeting on Tuesday evenings. The Rotary motto of “Service Above Self” is active by our local club and we are always looking for new members.

2020 Senior Awards
The Kuyahoora Valley Rotary Club has again given out $4,000 in awards to six graduating
Seniors from the two local schools, Poland Central School (PCS) and West Canada Valley Central School (WCV).  This year the Rotary Foundation supplemented our awards to meet our goals. The Arthur Whaley Award ($1000) is given to two seniors (Emily Walther - PCS and Caeli Campbell - WCV) for academic excellence, The Richard Rausch Award ($500) is given to two Seniors (Baily Dunn – PCS and Sarah Costello – WCV) for exhibiting strong effort in school. The Kenneth Young Award ($500) is given to two Seniors (Jack Oczkowski – PCS and Casey Dibble – WCV) for outstanding community service.  In addition, one Senior (Portia Camardello) in West Canada Valley Central School is recognized with a $1,000 award for academic/athletic excellence in memory of Patricia Coman.  All winners attended a Rotary dinner meeting with their parents at the Town of Russia Memorial Park in Poland, NY. Kuyahoora Valley Food Pantry Donation
Kuyahoora Valley Rotary Club Supports the Kuyahoora Valley Food Pantry

The Kuyahoora Valley Rotary Club requested a $500 community service grant from Rotary District 7150. The grant was funded and the photo shows two Rotarians handing a check for $500 to Ralph Dow, who has served for 17 years as the Director of the Kuyhoora Valley Food Pantry. Our Rotary club is proud to help this excellent community service organization now located on NYS State Route 28 between Newport and Poland. The Food Pantry is open during the COVID-19 pandemic as boxes of food are loaded directly into vehicles by gloved and masked volunteers. No human interaction is necessary.
