On October 20, 2018, the Kuyahoora Valley Rotary Club held a dinner dance (Tool Box Bash) at the Miner’s Table to top off the service project it began earlier in the year to raise funds, organize volunteers and acquire an inexpensive home in the Kuyahoora Valley which could be renovated by the Herkimer County Habitat for Humanity for a family in need of decent and affordable housing.

The Tool Box Bash, attended by over 100 guests, was a great success with the Club raising $4,275 in donations. The event had a great dinner and dancing with entertainment by a local band, The Two of Us. In addition to the funds raised by the Tool Box Bash the Club obtaining a  $2,100 grant from the Rotary District 7150 Foundation, and an additional $1,850 grant from AvanGrid Renewables, the owners of the Fairfield Wind Farm. The total funds available for the Habitat for Humanity project is $8,225.

In addition, the Club located and facilitated the donation of a very suitable home in need of renovations at 30 Millington Ave in Poland to the Herkimer County Habitat for Humanity.  We are extremely grateful to the generosity of the Donor, Karen Prindle, who was a special guest at the event.

Habitat for Humanity projects like this build strength, stability and self-reliance as the home is renovated in partnership with a family in need of decent, affordable housing and volunteers from the surrounding community.  These families work on their home alongside the community volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage.

As soon as the renovations begin, volunteers will be needed to work on the general aspects of the project, including demolition, clean up, painting, plastering, or as assistants for the renovations needing more skill or experience.  We also need additional skilled laborers such as: roofers; electricians; carpenters to replace the front porch and windows; and, plumbers to renovate the upstairs bathroom and add a second bath on the first floor.  If you are interested in helping out, please contact Dorene Gortner at dorene.gortner@yahoo.com.  Some pictures of the event are provided below.
